Allowing Your Network to Work

Most people are familiar with the term "Networking." It is a crucial part of everyday business and everyday life really. It's the give and take of information, services and business between different parties. Some give it a bad name with the mis-understanding that it's all about what I can get. Others network and don't know they are doing it. If you have ever recommended a movie to someone you have practiced networking. If you have ever been contacted with the following question, "Hey, have you ever heard of (fill the blank), what did you think of it?" you were part of a networking exchange. Some think networking is strictly for business purposes; but I'm here to tell you that it's not. Getting a referral to a school for yourself or your kid, getting the name of a good real estate broker or plumber is all part of networking. The concept I want to share with you is Net-working. I like to break it down into two words "Net and Working." What is Net-Working? I'm glad you asked. It's actually having your net (picture in your mind a physical fishing net) work for you and you working as part of a net. We are all part of an intricate network that needs a couple of things:

1.Understanding of what it is and that it exist
2.It needs to be Used (not abused)
3.It needs to be cared for and mended at times
4.It needs to grow so it can have greater impact.
