My #1 Fan is 50 plus

My number one fan is 50 plus. Yes, it may be a cliche, but I have never seen someone work so hard and have such pride in making sure that I am successful. My mom is out there making sure that all my peeps from around the way back in Brooklyn (I live in Massachusetts now) knows that I have a book out and they better buy one. This woman is no joke! I can't tell you the last time I've seen her get after something the way she is when it comes to my book.

It all started by her taking a 4hr trip from NYC to Oneonta (O-knee-on-ta), NY where I went to college and the site of my first book signing. She already had a list of names that I needed to make books out for when she arrived. The day following my book signing, my wife and I were in preparation to head back to MA, when we got a phone call in our hotel room. It was my mom (she was staying in the same hotel) asking if she could come down. "Of course, you can. " Little did I know she put in a couple of calls the previous night and that morning to secure a couple more book sales. Wow! I gave her a couple of books to take home with her just in case some people around the way wanted a copy. Less than 1 week later we are on the phone and she is telling me I better send her another 10 copies. What??? To my amazement she had been hustling to let people who I grew up with, "on the block" that I wrote my first book. If I'm not careful she will outsell me.

So why do I share this story with you all? Not only to give my Mama praise, but also to let you know that I would never have thought about my mom as a distribution source for my books. Where are you leaving money on the table? There are people out there who love you and are willing to work very hard for your success for no other reason except that you are you. Quick question for you, "how do you feel when you help someone else?" Chances are you feel pretty good. Don't deny someone else that feeling. Let them help you. This especially goes out to those who are usually in the care given position. Take a little for yourself. Are you ready and willing to except it? If not, send them my way http://www.runthepoint.com/ .
